This scavenger hunt features a unique blend of online and in-person challenges that will be unlocked week by week, allowing you to delve deeper into the Chinatown experience. As you navigate the district and explore its cultural heritage in the digital realm, you'll be tasked with completing a variety of missions that will test your observational skills, culinary knowledge, and cultural awareness.

THE 4-week MISSIONS
Week 1: Explore Calgary's Chinatown Landmarks - May 6 to 12
Online Mission
Uncover the history and significance of Chinatown's iconic landmarks, such as the Chinese Cultural Centre, the Bow River Bridge, and Sien Lok Park: Decipher clues and complete quizzes to unlock the next set of challenges.
In-Person Mission
Venture out into the neighbourhood and locate key landmarks, capture stunning photos, and share your discoveries on social media. Engage with loclresidents and learn about the history and importance of these sites to the Chinatown community.
Week 2: Savor the Flavours of Chinatown’s Cuisine - May 13 to 19
Online Mission
Embark on a virtual food tour and learn about the diverse culinary traditions shaping Calgary's Chinatown. Identify authentic ingredients, master the art of making traditional dishes, and create your signature fusion recipe.
In-Person Mission
Explore the vibrant markets and hidden eateries of Chinatown, sampling delectable dishes and uncovering the stories behind the food. Interact with local shop owners and chefs to deepen your understanding of the neighbourhood's unique cuisine.
Week 3: Immerse in Culture - May 20 to 26
Online Mission
Dive into the rich cultural heritage of Calgary's Chinese heritage through interactive experiences, such as a deep dive in the Glenbow’s Digital Archives, calligraphy workshops, and lion dance performances. Demonstrate your newfound knowledge through quizzes and creative challenges.
In-Person Mission
Participate in cultural activities, like going to art galleries or martial arts classes, and engage with the local community to learn about their customs and traditions.
Week 4: Celebrate the Community Spirit - May 27 to 31
Online Mission
Collaborate with your team to create a virtual time capsule that captures the essence of Calgary's Chinatown. Curate a collection of photos, stories, and reflections that showcase the neighborhood's vibrant community.
In-Person Mission
Attend an Asian Heritage Month event, and immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere. Engage with residents, support local businesses, and find ways to engage with the Chinatown community.
Whether you're a longtime Calgary resident or a curious explorer, this 4-week scavenger hunt is your chance to dive deep into the heart of the city's Chinatown and create lasting memories with family, friends, or colleagues.

Terms and Conditions for “Calgary Chinatown Scavenger Hunt 2024”
Internet access and a valid Goosechase account are required. Enter between 10:00 AM MT on April 24, 2024, and 10:00 PM on May 31, 2024, to be eligible for a chance to win. Open to residents of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, individual or one (1) team member must be over the age of majority.
One (1) “Day of Feasting and Shopping in Chinatown” Grand Prize available, consisting of a Calgary Chinatown tote bag, gift card for Dim Sum and dinner at select restaurants, $50 CAD redemption for Chinatown treasures, and vouchers for bubble tea and desserts. The approximate retail value (ARV) of the prize is $350 CAD.
Secondary weekly prizes available that include but are not inclusive of:
Calgary Chinatown tote bag. The approximate retail value (ARV) is $20 CAD.
Calgary Chinatown t-shirts. The approximate retail value (ARV) is $25 CAD.
$25 CAD gift card to Chinatown businesses.
Restrictions apply. Winners will be required to pick up their prizes. By entering this scavenger hunt, you grant the Calgary Chinatown Business Improvement Area (CBIA) and its representatives the authorization to reproduce, broadcast, publish, distribute, and modify photographs and videos created over the course of the eligibility period submitted through the Goosechase app and through social media.
Odds of winning depend on the number of points accumulated during the scavenger hunt. The grand prize will be awarded to the individual/team with the highest amount of accumulated points over the course of the scavenger hunt period. Weekly grand prizes will be awarded to the individual/team who has collected the most points for that particular week (Monday to Sunday). In the case of ties among participants, the individual/team who reaches the highest accumulated points will be awarded the prize.
